The device drivers and silicon were developed to provide the optimal performance in terms of both throughput and host CPU utilization. Independent testing shows that they provide the leading performance in the industry: Checksum offloads, TCP segmentation (Large Send), and Interrupt Coalescing all serve to minimize CPU utilization and improve network throughput. The ultra deep packet buffer, adaptive interrupt coalescing, and support for the new PCI-X bus interface allow the BCM570x family of devices to maintain wirespeed throughput at all times even with today's heavily loaded servers.

The advanced server features provided by BASP allow users to: failover and failback from other network connections in the same server even if they are from another vendor or run at different speeds. Broadcom's failover/failback capabilities work in conjunction with PCI Hot Plug mechanisms to allow an IT professional to swap cards to prevent server downtime. The BASP software also provides multiple options to scale performance over multiple adapters. The Broadcom Smart Load BalancingTM (SLB) capability enables bi-directional switch independent load balancing for up to 16Gbps aggregate throughput, even with mixed network adapters from other vendors running at different speeds.

In addition the BASP program can be configured to run the new IEEE 802.3ad switch dependent load balancing or the generic trunking technology featured in older Cisco switch products. All of these load balancing technologies are tightly coupled with failover/failback enabling redundancy while providing scalability.
