Broadcom's BCM7440 SoC has become the prevalent technology for Blu-ray Disc playback, exemplifying the company's technical abilities and commitment to this market. The new SoC offers high definition video playback at 1080p resolution, picture-in-a-picture video support, high definition multi-channel audio, and world class BD-Java performance for full support of BD-Live functionality. Integrated security and streaming features have enabled manufacturers to leverage the BCM7440 built-in Ethernet port to deploy a new class of Blu-ray players that feature Internet-based streaming media playback capabilities.
"We are very pleased to have been able to deliver the world's first Netflix ready Blu-ray Disc player on our silicon platform," said Dan Eiref, Vice President & General Manager of Broadcom's Consumer Electronics line of business. "Consumers can now instantly watch movies and TV episodes from Netflix via the Internet on the LG BD300 player. We are excited about the growth potential of this new segment of Blu-ray disc players, as well as the unique collaboration between LG, Netflix and Broadcom that helped bring this product to market in record time."
"In another industry first for LG, the BD300 provides consumers with both an advanced Blu-ray player and networked access for services such as Netflix," said Dr. J.Y. Kim, Vice President of LG Electronics. "Broadcom's leading edge Blu-ray Disc solution helped LG provide our customers with this technology sooner than any other manufacturer."
"Broadcom has established itself as an innovation leader in the consumer electronics space by enabling a groundbreaking combination of world class Blu- ray disc playback and Netflix instant streaming," said Bill Holmes, Vice President of Business Development of Netflix. "We are pleased to be working closely with Broadcom to enable broadband streaming of Netflix content directly to Blu-ray Disc players, providing consumers even more viewing choices and elevating the premium home entertainment experience."
